by Rashad Ali Muhammad
February 15 – 27, 2018
Crowned in Gold is the first solo exhibit for rising visual artist, Rashad Ali Muhammad. He has quickly made a name for himself with his signature use of gold leaf, and surreal approach to portrait work. His Muslim roots, conflicting with spiritual non-religious views, and a nonconformist attitude, serves to enhance his artistic themes. With a background in graphic design and photography, Muhammad casts a unique approach in his pieces; leaving viewers captivated, as they are carried to an intense, brighter, more exuberant plane of expression.
Crowned in Gold runs from February 15 – 27, 2018 in the new Visual Entrepreneur Gallery in the Hive 2.0 at 1231B Good Hope Road SE, Washington DC 20020. The Opening reception will be held on February 15 from 6-9PM. Branding: It’s More Than A Logo – artist workshop will be held on February 22, from 6-9PM. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10am – 5pm and by appointment.
His interest for creating started at an early age and was fostered by his high school Art/Video Production teacher, who helped develop his painting, video and photography skills. During his undergraduate years at American University, Rashad fell in love with graphic design and continued to expand his photography skills. As his network expanded, Muhammad refused to put himself into separate boxes—designer vs. photographer vs. artist—he became all these things and more. His artwork has been featured in various group shows: Art as Politics at Touchstone Gallery, SPLASH! at Brentwood Arts Exchange, Bring It! at the Prince George’s Delegation of the Lowe House Office Building in Annapolis, and Radical Re-imaginings at the Woolly Mammoth Theater.
